For the first seven years after his graduation from Law School, Barry worked in the legal services community, serving as a Fellow at the Neighborhood Legal Aid Society in Richmond, as a Senior Attorney at the Virginia Legal Aid Society in Lynchburg, as a trainer for the Virginia Poverty Law Center, and a consultant for the federal Legal Services Corporation. His advocacy areas emphasized public and private housing issues, governmental entitlements, and prisoners’ rights.

Upon marrying his wife Blair in 1982 Barry settled in Charlottesville and entered private practice as a sole practitioner. His goal was, and remains, to provide highly competent legal assistance at reasonable charges in subject areas most commonly needed. During the first fifteen years his private practice included personal injury and other tort litigation, criminal law, and juvenile law, as well as his current practice areas. He has continued to specialize in family law (divorce, equitable distribution of property, support and child custody); civil litigation over contracts, fraud, real estate and decedents’ estates; transactional work concerning real estate and contracts; the drafting of wills and other testamentary documents; estate administration; and other civil legal concerns.

He has tried cases in dozens of the Commonwealth’s Circuit and District Courts and has handled appeals to the Virginia Court of Appeals and the Virginia Supreme Court. He is also certified as a practitioner of collaborative law.

Barry’s wife Blair is a musician and music minister and teacher. They are long-time residents of Greenwood where they raised their four children, Lillian, Henry, Arden and Calloway.
